Why Chiropractic Care is a Smart Choice for Back Pain

By Frank Giambagno

It is sometimes met with scepticism. It has its critics and die-hard fans. But when it comes to addressing back pain and problems of the spine, Chiropractic care presents a convincing and usually very effective treatment choice.

Chiropractic takes an alternate approach than the medical model that many folk are used to. Instead of utilizing the outside-in approach of repairing a body with drugs, chiropractic, like physiotherapy, focuses on correction and restoration of health through more natural methods.

These are some of the genuine benefits chiropractic manipulation can bring:

1. Release of endorphins. Endorphins cause a near instant and temporary relief similar to pain medication, making you less aware of the problem. This trick of the body can cause a secondary benefit: that of relaxing local tissues like trigger points or tight musculature that could be pinching your nerves.

2. Improved nutrient supply. The cartilage and other structures within a joint have no blood supply. These structures get their nutriments through motion. Joint motion moves this fluid around and so providing fresh nutriments to all parts of the joint, as well as removing waste. Specific manipulation encourages complete range of motion and synovial fluid movement.

3. Reduced pressure on the nerves. Your nervous system is the control center of your body. Nerves and nerve bundles are soft tissue and are not without vulnerabilities. They do not function well under physical pressure. Swelling, a pronounced disc, or fragment floating around can interfere with correct nerve conduction. A professionally applied chiropractic adjustment could cause a relief of this pressure through movement of the joint to the right position, or motion.

4. Retraining for improved function. For prolonged conditions in particular, the brain is in need of retraining for the motion of the distressed joint. Chiropractic manipulation takes a joint thru its complete range of motion. This new input is then stored and replayed in the brain, similar to the muscle retraining that physiotherapists do. Once the body has done the motion enough times it remembers it and thereby gives a functional correction which will provide pain alleviation

Attempting to find relief from an acute or lingering back pain? Be sure to give chiropractic a try.
